Welcome. I’m Yuxuan Waters Deng.
I write about governance, incentives, and the accelerating world we are entering — a world where institutions struggle to keep pace with technological, economic, and societal change.
My work explores a simple but difficult question:
Why do some systems learn and adapt, while others stagnate or fracture?
Drawing on experiences across cultures, decades of observing how organizations succeed and fail, and a lifelong interest in the logic beneath human behavior, I focus on the structural forces that shape modern governance:
I believe that clarity, humility, and disciplined reasoning are increasingly rare — yet increasingly essential — as we build the next generation of institutions. My goal is not to tell moral stories, but to understand mechanisms: how societies rise, drift, adapt, or decline.
This site will host my essays, research notes, and updates on my book On Incentivism and the Adaptive State, which outlines a framework for governance in the AI era.
If you are interested in how nations learn, how systems evolve, and how individuals can navigate complexity with calm and clarity, I hope you’ll find something useful here.
